Barracuda backs up the following items on a daily basis.

  • One Drive
  • Share Point
  • Teams (Teams and Documents only, does not restore Teams Chats)
  • Exchange Online

Additionally, Barracuda archives every internal and external email that is sent or received by a Dave Jones email address.

When to use Barracuda Backup to restore data:

  • User has deleted something from One Drive and it's no longer in the recycle bin OR the user has been termed.
  • A Team has been deleted accidentally
  • Documents or Libraries have been deleted from SharePoint and are not available in the recycle bin.
  • A user has permanently deleted folders or large quantities of emails.

When to use the Barracuda archiver to locate data:

  • A user has deleted a message, or message chain that needs to be located. They will need to provide search criteria to assist. Make sure they have a legitimate reason for the request, reach out to Brian or Ryan if you are unsure
  • An executive or Manager makes a request about emails a user may have sent or received.
  • Instructions for this will be in a separate article.

Restoring from Barracuda Backup

Log into the Barracuda website and choose Cloud-to-Cloud Backup from the left navigation pane. The dashboard shows when the last backup was performed.

To restore items, click protect and select the service you need to restore from:

For this example I'll choose One Drive and restore a folder called MSI Info that was deleted:

In folder explorer, you can see the folder does not exist:

You can scroll through the user list, search for specific users and also pick specific backup dates, in this case I searched for bmangan and the most recent date, the full One Drive for a user will show "UNKNOWN" as the drive.

Locate the item you wish to restore and select it. You can also select individual files instead of folders. Choose export or restore:

Choosing Export will allow you to download the file and save it in a new location or share it with the user.

You can view the status of the export job by clicking on the dashboard:

When selecting Restore, the default is the original location. You can choose another location but it has to be within our Office 365 environment.

View the status of the restore from the Dashboard:

You can now see the folder has been restored.

Restores for SharePoint and Teams are a similar process.

Restoring Email Items

Choose Exchange from the Protect menu.

Search for the users email address which will show at the top of the search results.

Click on the user and wait for the mailbox to load, then locate the folder that contains item or items to restore. Note that loading can take a while depending on the size of the mailbox.

Find the item(s) you wish to restore and choose Export or Restore just like the One Drive example:
